part-time program

PLEASE NOTE: IF SIGNED UP FOR A CLASS, COME PREPARED BY GATHERING MATERIALS. SEE LIST HERE. Enter through the parking lot door and directional signs will be posted to the classroom.

The part-time classes at GLAFA offer the same core curriculum as the full-time program, but are taught in a less intensive format. Students begin with preliminary drawing exercises, and, if they choose to continue with the program long-term, progress to charcoal drawing from life and eventually to black and white and full-color still life oil painting. Critiques and instruction are individualized to accommodate each student, and classes are open to all, regardless of prior experience or skill level. Any student with the desire to learn and improve will find their efforts commensurately rewarded by an improved ability to realize their personal artistic goals. If taken to heart, the lessons learned in these classes will provide the building blocks to produce more advanced and creatively satisfying artworks.

We offer seminars and workshops, from time to time, featuring some of today’s best contemporary representational artists from around the world.

“The night classes at GLAFA are a haven! The curriculum is amazing and it will teach you not only how to create art but how to see in a new way. Eric is an amazing teacher and the atmosphere is peaceful and supportive. I highly recommend these classes to anyone.”

“I was thrilled to learn about GLAFA and the opportunity to take night classes due to having a full time job during the day. I had never received any formal training in art but have always loved the arts and to create. Upon arriving, I was quickly welcomed into the positive and inclusive studio environment. As a learner, the instruction has been insightful and new - challenging my brain in wonderful ways with exciting outcomes. The space created by the instructor and fellow classmates is one I look forward to joining on a weekly basis as a lovely refuge of learning and creative outlet.”

— Laura B.

"Jeff Larson promised me I would see the world differently after attending class.  He was right.  In addition to learning how to draw and paint, everything around me looks more complex and interesting as a result of my attendance in the part time program at the Academy.  It has been a truly life enriching experience."
